Coping Saw (ETL1125) In Stock Now

WHAT IT DOES

Different hand saws can be used to cut wood, metals, plastics, and plasterboard of different thicknesses.  Do you need a hand saw or a power saw?  This may depend on how much cutting you need to do, material, accuracy needed etc.

Coping Saw

A coping saw can be used to cut wood, metal, plastic or ceramic (tiles).  It has a deep C-shaped steel frame that holds a thin fine-toothed blade that allows you to cut curves. It can also be used to cut decorative moldings to fit around corners. Tightening the handle will tension the blade.   A 15 TPI blade will be OK unless the material is very thin (less than about 3mm).

Info about blades - Please note, we can’t guarantee the state of the blade that’s in the saw when you borrow it but blades are replaceable and cheap (for example, at your local Screwfix).  Most saw blades are rated by teeth per inch (TPI), ranging from 2 to 32. Blades with lower TPI numbers and large teeth will cut quickly but produce rougher cuts. The higher TPI ratings with smaller teeth will produce fine, smooth cuts. Woodworking blades are commonly available in 10, 15, 20, and 24 teeth per inch (TPI).  Some blades are designed to cut metal, others aren’t.  Also bear in mind that some saws cut on the forward stroke and others cut on the backward stroke, depending on which way the teeth are facing.  Always make sure the teeth are the right way round for your saw when you are fitting a new blade.
