HOW TO USE IT
This is a short article from Fine Woodworking about how to set up a Fillister Plane correctly: https://www.finewoodworking.com/2022/05/27/setting-up-a-fillister-plane
A few points to remember:
1. Secure Your Workpiece: Ensure that your workpiece is securely clamped or held in place.
2. Check the Sharpness of the Blade: A dull blade can cause the plane to chatter or catch, so let our volunteers know if the blade needs to be sharpened or replaced.
3. Use Proper Technique: Hold the plane firmly with both hands, and keep your fingers away from the cutting edge of the blade to avoid accidental cuts.
4. Adjust Depth of Cut Carefully: This has a depth stop that allows you to control the depth and width of the groove being cut. Start with a shallow cut and gradually increase the depth as needed, taking care not to remove too much material in a single pass.
5. Check Grain Direction: Pay attention to the direction of the wood grain when planing. Planing against the grain can cause tear-out and splintering, so work with the grain whenever possible for smoother results.
