It's important to recognise the laser level works using gravity, a bit like a plumb line. The body of the laser must sit in the base with the three adjustable screws. Turn on the horizontal, vertical, or both lines using the buttons on the top. The large brass screw on the bottom of the laser level should be unscrewed to allow the laser to self-level (wobble about until it is still). This is then showing accurate horizontal and vertical lines and you can use a pencil to mark your lines. The tripod and adjustable base can be used to change height of the level. Please note - if the brass screw is fixed, this is fixing where the laser is shining - this will not necessarily be vertical or horizontal - this should be used if you are looking to get a line on a particular angle or following a particular line. When you finish, tighten the brass screw so the laser isn't bouncing around in transportation.
